A
hardline Muslim preacher has declared guitars, flutes and pianos are
sinful because they encourage pre-marital sex - and he also claims
female singers cause earthquakes.
Ahlus
Sunnah Wal Jamaah morals crusader Nassim Abdi told a mosque at Auburn
in western Sydney that modern beats are also more intoxicating than alcohol.
The
Sunni fundamentalist quoted verses from the Hadith, a book chronicling
the life of the Prophet Mohammad, to describe flutes as the 'voice of
the immoral fool'.
He also quoted a verse
which said there would be 'earthquakes and showers of stones' if people
drank alcohol, listened to female singers or played musical instruments.
'A lot of these are becoming more and more prevalent, especially the female singers,' he said.
Mr Abdi said the Prophet forbade drums and had described the flute as the 'voice of the immoral fool'.
The
religious teacher, from the Saudi-funded ASWJ, said music was 'a tool
that's always linked with alcohol and zina' - the Muslim term for sex
outside of marriage.

He
also took aim at long-necked string instruments, the fiddle, 'modern
instruments such as the violin', the organ, piano and guitar.
The
ultra-conservative preacher told his followers the Prophet banned
musical instruments 'because their effect and impact is greater than
that of the ancient instruments mentioned in the Hadith'.
He claimed modern dance beats are even more intoxicating than alcohol, which is banned in Islam.
'You look at a lot of
modern instruments, a lot of the modern beats and the way they put the
music together, and the person becomes more intoxicated … more
intoxicated than if he were to drink alcohol itself,' he said.
Last
year, Mr Abdi slammed Muslims parents for allowing their children to
listen to music in the car on the way home from the mosque and letting
them dance at home.
He has also
previously declared it sinful for women to show their ears in public and
was condemned by New South Wales government ministers and feminists in
September after Daily Mail Australia revealed a sermon where he said
wives had a duty to make themselves available for sex with their
husbands
